Below are Patricia’s Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 of her photographs submitted to this competition.
Patricia Cannon was a registered nurse at UCSF for over two decades, working in critical care—from cardiac and neuro-intensive care to hematology-oncology and research. Her professional journey is as diverse and passionate as her artistic endeavors.
Beyond the hospital walls, Patricia finds solace and creative expression in her photography and poetry. Her work captures the delicate interplay between life’s light and shadows, resonating with themes of nature, love, and loss.
A poet and photographer, Patricia's artistry is deeply intertwined with her life experiences and faith. Her images and words invite readers and viewers to explore emotional landscapes, offering a tender yet powerful glimpse into moments of beauty and reflection. Patricia's work has been featured in many books and magazines.
"Each piece, be it a photograph or a poem, reflects her commitment to capturing life's fleeting moments and honoring them with both heart and skill. Her ability to transform personal experiences into universal truths, paired with the emotional depth of her photography, makes Patricia Cannon a unique voice in both the art and literary worlds. Through her lens and pen, she sheds light on the beauty and fragility of the human experience." — Barbagelata Art Foundation

Photography and poetry are intricately connected in my artistic endeavors. Whether I am photographing an object or emphasizing the unique characteristics of a human face, I occasionally encounter a profound spiritual experience when the “veil lifts,” and I am granted a glimpse of something new.
