Artist Biography

Angeline Bartholomeusz is a self-taught artist. She has developed a unique style that has won numerous awards and has been selected as a finalist for several shows. This encouraged Angeline to take the leap and become a full-time artist in 2022. Angeline is highly supportive of the arts and has been a committee member of her local art society since 2012. Recently, she has been elected to her state's premier arts society (the Victorian Artists Society) as a committee member.

As an artist, Angeline paints from memory. This is to capture the emotional content of a place and to create a sense of place. She is influenced by the Australian Modernists including Arthur Streeton, Russel Drysdale, Fred Williams, and Tom Roberts. All these artists created artwork that uniquely depicted the land and its people. Angeline strives to create artwork that invites viewers into her world.

Artist Statement

I am an abstract painter who uses landscape as a metaphor. I enjoy telling stories in my paintings for the viewer to interpret. My themes have a strong relationship with the land and the environment.

The latest series I titled, “A Sense of Belonging”. I aimed to capture the connection between an individual and a place. In this series, I used a transparent layering technique to place a portion of a figure within the landscape. My aim is to create work that resonates with the viewer and allows them to see different perspectives.
