Artist Biography

Lorna Beecroft has had a life-long joy of creating using fabric, wood, and fiber. Her journey into painting and drawing began in 2016 when she finally had time to immerse herself in these art forms. She has followed her own educational path, gaining experience by attending workshops with world-class artists and through self-directed courses. This combined with hours and hours of practice has taken her to where she is today, with so much more to try out and perfect.

Her favorite mediums are acrylics, oils, graphite, charcoal, conte, pencil crayons, and pastels. Each one has such unique properties and produces wonderfully different outcomes.

Lorna has been an animal lover for as long as she can remember, finding great joy in the company of all animals. So naturally, her favorite subjects are the animals she has spent so many hours with, in particular horses, cats, and dogs. For Lorna, the joy of creating is watching the subject(s) slowly appear out of the canvas or paper as if they have a will and life of their own. She believes the eyes are the mirror into their souls and is only satisfied when the viewer is able to dive into the piece and connect with the true spirit of each animal.

Artist Statement

I love to create & love animals even more. My goal is to have the viewer see animals the way I do, admiring and loving them for their spirit and beauty. I spend many, many hours working on each piece with that hope always foremost.

Through my art I create stillness and harmony inspired by the beauty and simplicity of Mother Nature. When I paint landscapes and wildlife, I feel closer to nature. Suzie Sullivan's lifelong passion for art and craft work began as a child in the UK. Throughout her life she has always had hobby projects on the go but could only have dreamt where it would lead. She has always had a fascination for Ireland and moved there in 2001. She loves what Ireland has to offer - music, culture, ancient legends and fairy tales and the wide-open spaces - and all of this is reflected in her work. She is now known throughout Ireland and beyond for her work in fibre art, polymer clay and flame worked glass. She has won several prestigious awards for her art and craft and has participated in many exhibitions and shows. She has also shared her extensive knowledge with many students over the years. Suzie is a self-taught artist, preferring to work and experiment in the peace of her own studio tucked away in the beautiful wild landscape of the west of Ireland.

Artist Statement

Nestled in the beautiful landscape of Co Mayo, Ireland is a small studio where self-taught artist Suzie Sullivan spends her days creating art and craft. For many years Suzie has been better known as a textile artist working with wool and fibre, but in 2019 she changed direction and started working with polymer clay. This new material has opened a whole new world of texture and creativity. Her work represents a unique vision of an imaginary world of nature, capturing extravagant forms, colours and patterns derived from the natural world we live in. This latest body of small sculptures is titled ‘If you go Down to the Woods Today’. These sculptures are meticulously detailed and are intended to evoke dreams, childhood memories and the desire to escape to a world of one’s own making. They are made with a wire armature built up with layers of polymer clay and richly embellished with unique colour blends and complex polymer clay cane work.
