Below are Robert’s Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 photographs from his “The World Around Us” series that were submitted to this competition.

Artist Biography

Robert’s first experience in photography was when he was offered the opportunity to be mentored in the basics of film photography and darkroom techniques, including such archival techniques as wet plate photography and large format film photography. He carried this experience into his academic career as a biologist, using photography in his teaching and research, where he used photo and electron-microscopy and image analysis to study genetics.

Upon retirement, Robert moved to digital photography and the digital darkroom and focused on nature and street photography, areas in which he directs his viewer to see the relationship between the arts and sciences, and where he develops photos in the digital darkroom in monotone using archival techniques of film photography or in color, depending on the purpose of the story told.

Robert views the photograph as his “novel” to be read by the imagination of the viewer, and thus he crafts the photograph for this purpose. He is interested in showing how cultures may differ but are much the same. His work has been exhibited in physical and online galleries via competitions and in solo exhibits at St. Louis Artist Guild, Bradley University, Peoria Artist Guild, at EuroBiotech Poznan, Poland, and Solo Artist at Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery, among others. He has been in curated exhibits and was awarded 3rd place in the 2022 Fall Exhibition at the International Photographic Hall of Fame and Museum. He is a featured artist at Camelback Galleries and has been Artist of the Month in Gallery Ring and Camelback galleries.

Artist Statement

The photograph is, in many ways, a pictorial novel. The photographer does not necessarily write the words, but rather establishes background and character; the imagination of the viewer does the rest. It has a purpose, and like a book, it becomes a storage place for ideas and events and a teaching tool. In my many years as a biologist, using photography as a research and teaching tool, I realized that there is a close relationship between science and the arts.

Clearly, photography can be used to teach this relationship. While the relationship is easily captured in nature photography, it can also be found in human societal and cultural differences. Thus, one of my goals is to use photography to show that even though cultures may differ, they are much the same and that we should see this sameness as we address worldly issues. I try to show this through photography of peoples in their native environment, involved in their daily tasks of living.

In my early mentoring in film photography, I was taught using archival techniques, working primarily in monotone. With the evolution of digital photography and the digital darkroom, I realized that street or candid photography better writes the pictorial novel. As such, I try to capture people as they would be and not posed as they might be, and while I still work in monotone, I also work in color, as this talks about the culture and cultural differences, often better showing the setting of the novel.

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is extremely pleased to announce that Iryna Akimova has been named as the Gallery’s new featured artist and she will now be promoted by the gallery for the next 14 days in the gallery’s Artist Showcase.

Iryna is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning artist based in Kiev, Ukraine. She was selected as 1 of the top twelve finalists in the gallery’s 27th Solo Art Exhibition Series. The placement in this competition qualified her art to be showcased in this feature.

Iryna’s Artist Showcase feature will be promoted to hundreds of major news outlets, with inclusion on Google News & Bing News. In addition, the gallery will also be featuring and promoting her artwork in the gallery’s various social media networks for further exposure.

Below are Iryna’s Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 artworks from her PEACE AND WAR project that were submitted to this competition.

Artist Biography

Iryna Akimova is a contemporary Ukrainian artist who lives and works in Kiev. She graduated from Kharkov State University (Ukraine), where she got her PhD degree. Iryna started her professional artistic career after having vast experience as a University professor, director of an NGO, and parliamentarian. She concentrated her art research on studying the roots of the individuality in the formation of subjective perceptions of the reality.

She is fond of «exercices de style» and experiments. She often presents her expressionistic paintings along with the impressive abstract and surrealistic experiments. She started in painting, and then went into installations, video-animation and performance in order to achieve a multidimensional effect.

She had ten solo exhibitions, and took part in 50+ national and international group exhibitions. She received numerous awards at international art contests. Some of her pictures were successfully sold at Phillips auction in London, and several artworks entered museums and private collections in Ukraine, Germany, Slovakia, and China.

Iryna is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Five years ago she founded Ukrainian Association of Feminine Research in the Arts (UAFRA) and established an annual Womens’ArtFest to advocate gender equality in the arts.

Artist Statement

The project PEACE AND WAR was started in the spring of 2022 in a small town of Tulchyn in the Vinnytsia region in Ukraine, where Iryna escaped with the family for two weeks from war. A peaceful landscape with a small pond and trees and their reflection in the water is bathed in the blue-yellow-orange color palette of the setting sun.

The author's analysis separates components of the landscape, and then synthetically mixes them into an abstract surrealistic print of a spring evening. Feel the fragile atmosphere of peace, keep it in your heart, and fight for it, when the time comes... The peaceful landscape turns into a war landscape, full of broken lines and fires that remind of cruel and greedy breath of death. The stem of a mystical plant of war fills the entire space with flames, destruction and the putrid smell of decomposition. The same motifs and colors, and different realities and feelings…War changes everything...

Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of art in navigating life's challenges and discovering purpose within adversity.

After earning her theatre degree, Lâle worked professionally in Turkey as both an actress and a faculty member at a conservatory. She fought a 5-year legal battle for the right to adopt as a single woman, reshaping her path and ultimately welcoming her son into her life. Returning to the US, she carved out a career in HR management to provide stability for her child. Amidst personal tragedy with her mother's cancer diagnosis and the onset of the pandemic, she rediscovered solace in art.

Now, her artistic journey has evolved from a hobby to a full-time business, fueled by resilience and a passion for creativity. Lâle’s artwork, spanning diverse mediums and techniques with a focus on acrylics and abstract art, reflects a unique perspective on life's complexities.

Artist Statement

As an artist based in Florida, I create abstract art to express my emotions through color and experimentation with contrasts of dark and light. Color is more important to me than depicting realistic pictures. I love that abstract art allows the viewer, in turn, the freedom to transpose their feelings and experiences into the artwork.

My process begins with choosing a color palette and the message or story I want to convey on the canvas. Once I see these elements come to life, I step away for a day or two and return with pen and ink to add the details that complete the piece.

Although I've had a very fulfilling life, I've faced my share of difficulties, including some challenging health issues. It's also easy to see tragedies all around us. When I paint, I can put all this aside and share the beauty that is truly everywhere. I choose to uplift myself and others through my art, aiming to spread positivity and inspire hope. Through my art, I want to create an emotional connection with the viewer, inviting them to interpret and connect with the artwork in their own unique way.

My series, "Shine Your Light," embodies my vision of spreading hope and compassion through art. Each piece comes with its own message such as "Be the Sun in Someone’s Darkness", how we can all find "Light from Darkness" or even "Sunflower" carries a message of hope since they can grow tall even in adverse conditions.

Maxwell is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning artist based in the Dominican Republic. He was selected as 1 of the top twelve finalists in the gallery’s 26th Solo Art Exhibition Series. The placement in this competition qualified his art to be showcased in this feature.

Maxwell’s Artist Showcase feature will be promoted to hundreds of major news outlets, with inclusion on Google News & Bing News. In addition, the gallery will also be featuring and promoting his artwork in the gallery’s various social media networks for further exposure.

Below are Maxwell’s Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 artworks that were submitted to this competition.

Artist Biography

Maxwell G. Miller (b.1992) is an American contemporary realist artist working in the Dominican Republic. His artistic career began in the theatrical arts, where he became well known for specializing in large-scale theatrical puppetry. He served as director, artistic designer, and scenic artist for several theater organizations based in Cleveland, OH before pursuing visual art professionally in 2017.

After refining his technique and developing an interest in mythology and history painting, he relocated to Scranton, PA in 2020 to complete an apprenticeship with master artist Anthony Waichulis at the ÀNI Art Academy. He completed his apprenticeship in 2022 and now serves as the Dean of the ÀNI Art Academies Dominicana in Río San Juan, Dominican Republic, where he strives to cultivate a richer artistic community through artistic education.

Maxwell’s sense of theatricality has continued to influence his compositions and has developed into a portfolio of dramatic portraiture and dense still life with a focus on storytelling. His work has received international awards and recognition from leading art competitions and major arts publications including The Art Renewal Center, The Boynes Artist Award, National Art League, The FiKVA Foundation, Bold Brush, The Artist’s Network, Southwest Art Magazine, Art Base, and Art Week. He is an associate member of the Oil Painters of America, an affiliated artist of Lovetts Gallery, and has works in private collections across the globe.

Artist Statement

My career began in the theatrical arts as a specialist in theatrical puppetry. I always enjoyed the process of visual problem solving: How can I take rigid materials and manipulate them to move in a fluid, life-like way? As I refined my techniques in the visual arts, I discovered that by manipulating charcoal and oil paint in the same way, it is uniquely possible to contain the entirety of a complex story in a single image. I developed a particular interest in mythology and history painting, and my work has become an extension of this style of storytelling.

Realism gives me the ability to clearly communicate through recognizable imagery. I find inspiration in other artistic media that focuses on storytelling - music, movies, tv shows, folklore, and mythology - but I’m most inspired by theatrical arts and puppetry. I enjoy creating artwork containing several figures or dense still life, and most of my work falls somewhere in that range.

There is a revival of realism happening now that I strive to be a part of. My sense of theatricality has continued to influence my compositions and has developed into a portfolio of dramatic portraiture and dense still life with a focus on storytelling.

Artist Statement

My artistic adventures began in Hungary, where a variety of interests led me to the world of art, languages, and teaching. I immersed myself in the visual arts alongside my late husband, master painter-printmaker Tom Lewis. I honed my skills at the Worcester Art Museum School under the mentorship of renowned artists such as Sally Bishop and Ella Delyanis.

My current projects are vibrant experiments in color, shape, light, and dynamic compositions, all inspired by my image library and texture brush collection. Each piece has a curious spirit: what if Kandinsky reimagined this scene? What if a dancer's entire movement became one image? What if this scene was transformed into a silk scarf? What if I could perch on the tops of trees with the birds? These wonderings result in whimsical visuals.

Now, in the picturesque Ozarks, I draw inspiration from the thriving arts community and the natural wonder that surrounds me. Motivated by fellow artists, actors, poets, and dancers, I seek to capture fleeting moments of pleasure. My digital brushwork expresses warmth and connectedness, inviting viewers to explore the present and wonder alongside me.

Fania is an award-winning artist based in North Carolina, USA. She was selected as 1 of the top twelve finalists in the gallery’s 26th Solo Art Exhibition Series. The placement in this competition qualified her art to be showcased in this feature.

Fania’s Artist Showcase feature will be promoted to hundreds of major news outlets, with inclusion on Google News & Bing News. In addition, the gallery will also be featuring and promoting her artwork in the gallery’s various social media networks for further exposure.

Below are Fania’s Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 artworks that were submitted to this competition.

Artist Biography

Fania Greenwood was born in Lyon, France, post-World War II. While growing up in Lyon her passion for art began at a young age as she studied fashion design and pattern making as well as French Cooking. She soaked up as much of the French culture as she could and brought it with her when she moved to the United States in the 1970’s.

After traveling for her first several years in the US, Fania studied Color and Design and Sculpture at Idaho State University before settling in Charlotte, NC in the 1980’s with her husband and three children. She studied Graphic Design and Photography while in Charlotte and worked in those fields for nearly 30 years while raising her children.

Fania’s inspirations rose from the French Post Impressionism, Cubism and Pop Art of the Twentieth Century. She loves graffiti paintings for their intense colors, freedom of patterns, fabrics, textured materials, found objects and printed materials.

Graffiti is often associated with vandalism but has proven to be much more and has slowly invaded contemporary culture. It plays an important role in the world of Art, Design and Fashion and is widely used on all kinds of merchandise as well – apparel, fashion accessories, culinary accessories, gift wrappers, boxes, cartons, etc…

All of these loves are very prevalent in her vibrant and colorful collages.

Artist Statement

A French native, my inspirations rose from the French Post Impressionism, Cubism and Pop Art of the Twentieth Century. From fashion design, sewing, pattern design to graphic design and the influence of a long list of contemporary artists and designers, I am now so happy that I am able to put everything on canvas. 5 years ago after retirement, I started painting but my work has been inspired by my many experiences from the last 60 years: Fashion Design, Pattern design, Graphic Design and Photography.

At first it was difficult to describe my paintings as I never really tried to find work this way. As a graphic designer, the portfolio talks for itself, and I did have a very long and interesting career. Now I know that my inspirations come from patterns, shapes, bright colors, recycled materials, and printed images from magazines and from my photographs taken in many countries over the years. My new work also includes more stitched fabrics on canvas complimented by color and designs.

I am very inspired by Yayoi Kusama who is in her nineties and still produces wonderful work. She taught me that it is never too late to express yourself in painting.

His creative process involves a mix of technical skill and artistic vision, as he experiments with composition, perspective, and post-processing techniques to create truly unique images. Whether he’s shooting cityscapes, landscapes, portraits, or abstract designs, Nijat’s goal is to create art that inspires and captivates his audience.

Nijat was awarded 1st Place Overall/Best in Show for his digital artwork, "City Life” in the Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery’s 13th Annual “Cityscapes” Online Art Exhibition in March 2023 and selected this Featured Artist membership as his award.

Many artists create because it’s their passion, and they love their work. However, there comes a time when the reality of paying bills and sustaining a comfortable life sets in.

While many artists pick up full-time jobs to cover their expenses, others are intrigued by the idea of turning their art into a business. If you’re the latter, a shift in mindset and an intense focus on marketing is necessary to make a lucrative business out of your work.

These three strategies can help you think like an entrepreneur and market your art effectively.

Understand What It Takes To Succeed

Your mindset is critical if you want to market your art successfully. When you decide to go from creating art for pleasure to making it for profit, it’s no longer always about what you like, want, or need. Instead, it becomes primarily about what potential buyers want, like, and need.

Educate yourself on the following as well:

  • Managing business finances;
  • Effective marketing strategies for artists;
  • How to structure an art-related business;
  • The likelihood of success in the art world;
  • Potential downfalls of an art-related business;
  • Artists who’ve managed to create successful businesses.

Understanding what it takes to succeed online, in particular, is incredibly important as well.

Traditional marketing strategies are helpful. However, the business world is becoming increasingly digital. Knowing how to market, connect with customers, and run your business online is the only way to ensure you don’t get left behind. Start by studying the ever-changing nature of the digital world, the behavior of digital natives, and the importance of flexibility while marketing your art.

Understanding what success takes will help you think more like a business owner. It’ll also help you approach marketing with intent and strategy.

Lean Into Digital Marketing

As mentioned above, the world is becoming more digitally focused. This means digital marketing is a must. Without it, you won’t have as broad a reach, nor will you have as many opportunities to boost brand recognition and awareness.

Educate yourself on the basics of digital marketing first. After that, create a detailed digital marketing strategy. Include the following details:

  • What you want to achieve with digital marketing;
  • Your budget for investing in specific digital marketing techniques and tools;
  • A list of the digital marketing channels you’ll use;
  • Goals for and details about what you’ll use each channel for;
  • The kind of content you’ll create and post on each platform;
  • How you’ll track the performance of each channel;
  • How you plan to engage with your audience on each platform.

Ultimately, your digital marketing channels should work together to give potential customers and fans a cohesive experience with your brand. It’s also essential to network relentlessly on your digital marketing channels and pursue other networking opportunities.

Network Relentlessly

Digital marketing can get any artist’s foot in the door, but networking can take you a step further. Genuine relationships with successful people in the industry can help strengthen your reputation as an artist and get the right eyes on your work.

Social media marketing is a tried-and-true strategy for artists and small businesses with a tight marketing budget. You can consistently post original content and take advantage of user-generated content from those who’ve purchased your art.

More importantly, social media is beneficial for not only increased traffic to your art website but also for networking. You can connect with other artists and partner with them to promote your work. You can join groups on these platforms and share your online portfolio, advice, and thoughts. You can spark and contribute to meaningful conversations with thought leaders, experts, and entrepreneurs in the art world.

Networking can also happen through crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing for any business involves getting feedback, work, or information from a large group. You can ask for feedback on works-in-progress and marketing content, opening up the opportunity to connect with fans and potential buyers.

Get into crowdfunding, as well, and it’s a win-win. You get your name and art out there while raising funds to put back into marketing or another aspect of your business.

Networking can get you and your business into doors that talent alone can’t. So, don’t neglect its importance.

Conclusion

To market your art as a company would, you must first shift your mindset to mirror an executive's. Then, lean into digital marketing and network relentlessly to turn your passion for art into a profitable business.

The mind of the cube has been scrambled, put in disarray, and even broken held together only in the most unstable of ways. This was meant to represent how many people felt after the pandemic, our minds tired and unfocused our plans broken and scrambled.

In addition to the galleries and museums, throughout the year Santa Fe hosts a collection of art markets and festivals and boasts the largest proportion of artists, performers and writers of any U.S. city.

As 2022 dawns, LST reconfirms its commitment of helping artists, worldwide, to market and sell their art. Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery conducts monthly themed online art competitions and art exhibitions for new and emerging artists on a worldwide basis. It is the gallery's mission to identify talented artists and help them to successfully market their works to the art world.

You can read the entire announcement on the Fusion Art website.

Thank you to all of our artists for being part of our LST and Fusion Art families. We wish all of you a very happy and prosperous new year!
