AUGUSTA, ME - November 2013 / - Award winning Maine Nature Photographer, Jeanne Marie Coleman, announced today that twenty three of her photographs will be featured in the new MaineGeneral Hospital’s art collection. The collection consists of 200 pieces of work selected from Maine area artists across all genres of art. The hospital is slated to open on November 9, 2013.
The new MaineGeneral Hospital, also known as the Alfond Center for Health, was designed on the concept that the colors and elements inherent in nature are vital to the healing process. Each piece of art was individually selected for its ability to visually carry this concept throughout the myriad areas of care within the facility.
Jeanne Marie Coleman lives in central Maine but travels throughout the State to capture its many, and varied, natural facets. Regarding the hospital art collection Coleman says that “I feel deeply honored and privileged to be part of such an important collection.”
The new $312 million, 600,000 square foot regional hospital is the first LEED certified hospital in the State. Keeping with its nature theme, large sections of glass allow natural light to flow in throughout the interior. Off the stone terrace a spacious healing and therapy garden incorporates fountains, plants and paths for personal reflection. The art collection is distributed in both public, and patient only, areas of the facility. The hospital is located on the same campus as the Alfond Cancer Center at 361 Old Belgrade Road, Augusta, ME. Their website is https://www.mainegeneral.org
