Artist Biography

Maureen Ravnik was born and raised in Minnesota.  After attending college in Colorado, she stayed and never looked back.  Working and traveling opened her eyes to the wonders of the American west and reawakened childhood tendencies to creatively document her discoveries.  She began making images of the American west in hopes of preserving the history, the culture, and the dreams that shaped the west. Today, Maureen’s time is spent outdoors taking in and capturing the scenery, wildlife, and exploring other methods for interpreting and sharing what she sees and experiences along the way.

Maureen has accomplished many things with her photography including images placed in the Audubon International Top 250, local, national and international juried photography exhibitions, winning placements in monthly club competitions, state park calendars, images selected for use by the City of Littleton, Colorado, and many images selected as editor picks on National Geographic and for publication. Her work has been the subject of several newspapers. She has co-authored 2 books that document the history, beauty and environment of the second largest natural area in the country.  Maureen has also served as a juror for the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Colorado.

Maureen’s goal is to continually look for new ways to challenge herself and express what she feels. That is what inspires her to never reject possibilities in subject matter.

Artist Statement

My techniques are largely self-taught. I am deeply inspired by Ansel Adams and Art Wolfe. My greatest reward comes from developing composites. My work is delivered in an array of styles that arc between passionately abstract and doggedly figurative.

She was also named the cover artist of Artist Portfolio Magazine. “My art is mostly from my own life experiences: my home, the town I've been living in for years, places I visited in the past, my children’s activities and people I met. I painted people or the moments in my life that moved me. I hope the viewers will relate my artwork to their own life” remarks Judy. While Judy paints various subjects, portraits are always Judy’s favorite. She is fascinated by every human face, whether an old woman in Nepal or a little girl next door. She not only wants to paint an individual's face but his/her soul. When asked about her painting style, Judy described her style as classic realism with a contemporary approach. She wants to show painterly quality of her work not photo realistic or total classic realism. She likes to use an abstract background to her portrait to show some contemporary feeling and use bold brush strokes to evoke emotions and inject energy. For medium choice, she loves Oil. Judy studied at Watts Atelier of the Arts and Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts.

To me, art is a way to document my life and express my feelings. My art is mostly from my own life experiences: my home, the town I've been living in for years, places I visited in the past, my children’s activities and people I met. Artist Biography

Born in Schenectady, New York, raised in Washington, D.C., Brian Mark has been intrigued by art of all kinds for most of his life. Literature appealed to him and ultimately, Mark taught English literature at university. While he was doing scholarly work on English literature, Mark began to feel a tug toward doing, not just intellectualizing about art.

Mark’s first artistic foray was in woodworking. After a while, he could not shake the impact Dylan Thomas’ poem, “In My Craft or Sullen Art” had on him. Mark kept feeling he was doing craft, not art, and wanted more. A friend urged him to look seriously at stone sculpture as his art focus.

Eventually, Brian Mark went to that sculpting class, and as he tells it: ‘As soon as I set foot in the studio and looked at the work the students were doing, I was hooked.’ That was 20 years ago. Mr. Mark has been joyfully doing stone sculpting from that date to now. Sculpting is something he simply cannot NOT do. It is a passion.

He creates abstract sculptures in harder stone such as marble, calcite, onyx, and others. He does not strive to make statements with his art, but rather ‘tries to bring beauty into this world, and at the same time soothe his soul by fulfilling the creative process.’ His work has been seen in many art shows and looks forward to continuing his love/work in stone.

Artist Statement

Nature is raw. Art is practiced. Each stone has its own language and I work to understand that language. Some of the learning comes from striving to listen to what each stone is saying. Each has a color, a shape, and a hidden beauty. While valuing that uniqueness, I strive to let my imagination fly free, in order build upon nature’s creation: blending raw nature with understanding the language of this stone. And, so begins the conversation between stone and sculptor. When a stone selects me, I cannot know what striations, hues, density, faults, lie under the surface. As I begin chiseling and grinding, the stone talks to me, saying, “I have this special colored line running through me: preserve it”. Or, “slightly shift the angle of this or that curve”. Or, “work with me: together we can bring forth that special surprise, that new beauty never before seen”. The conversation continues until nature’s stone and my imagination marry and together say, “stop – our work is done”. For me that conversation must lead to a sculpture that has movement, movement, movement. That movement is stone brought to life in a way never before seen.

Brian’s work can be viewed on his website.

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is extremely pleased to announce that Lorna Beecroft has been named as the Gallery’s new featured artist and she will now be promoted by the gallery for the next 14 days in the gallery’s Artist Showcase.

Lorna is an award-winning artist based in Canada. Lorna was selected as 1 of the top twelve finalists in the gallery’s 21st Solo Art Exhibition Series. The placement in this competition qualified her art to be showcased in this feature.

Lorna’s Artist Showcase feature will be promoted to over 350+ major news outlets, with inclusion on Google News & Bing News. In addition, the gallery will also be featuring and promoting her artwork in the gallery’s various social media networks for further exposure.

Below are Lorna’s Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 images that were submitted to this competition.

Artist Biography

Lorna Beecroft has had a life-long joy of creating using fabric, wood, and fiber. Her journey into painting and drawing began in 2016 when she finally had time to immerse herself in these art forms. She has followed her own educational path, gaining experience by attending workshops with world-class artists and through self-directed courses. This combined with hours and hours of practice has taken her to where she is today, with so much more to try out and perfect.

Her favorite mediums are acrylics, oils, graphite, charcoal, conte, pencil crayons, and pastels. Each one has such unique properties and produces wonderfully different outcomes.

Lorna has been an animal lover for as long as she can remember, finding great joy in the company of all animals. So naturally, her favorite subjects are the animals she has spent so many hours with, in particular horses, cats, and dogs. For Lorna, the joy of creating is watching the subject(s) slowly appear out of the canvas or paper as if they have a will and life of their own. She believes the eyes are the mirror into their souls and is only satisfied when the viewer is able to dive into the piece and connect with the true spirit of each animal.

Artist Statement

I love to create & love animals even more. My goal is to have the viewer see animals the way I do, admiring and loving them for their spirit and beauty. I spend many, many hours working on each piece with that hope always foremost.

Below is David’s Artist Biography, his Artist Statement, along with 25 of his abstract artworks.  We hope that you will take the time to read David’s information and to take a look at his artwork.

Artist Biography

David Wigner became interested in art when he was in high school, and worked primarily with watercolors. His mother influenced him while growing up, as she enjoyed creating watercolor art, and saw that he had natural ability towards drawing. So she gave David some of her materials and shared her techniques with him.

Through college at Grand Valley State, David took several art courses, but finished with a degree in philosophy. This made sense because he is a philosopher. He also worked in a mixed media format of combining elements into his works to develop his own style as a means of finding out what it was in him that he was trying to bring about in his art.  After college, David joined The Grand Valley Artists Association. This helped him tremendously, meeting new artists and working with some of them.

David’s latest passion as an artist has been creating abstract pour paintings. This format always challenges his strong sense of color and finding balance in his work. Pour painting keeps him sane. Like life, this whole process is inspiring David all the time. His son helped him build his website to help him share his work.

Artist Statement

There's something about pour painting that energizes me and satisfies my mind & soul. If I'm feeling upset with life, I can express that emotion in my work. When I'm feeling content, my work takes on that emotion too, having a calmer look and feel.

Below are Arlene’s Artist Biography, her Artist Statement, along with 12 artworks.  We hope that you will take the time to read Arlene’s information and to take a look at her "Absence of Privacy" series of paintings.

Artist Biography

As far as she can remember, Arlene Buster’s devotion to painting emerged at a very young age. As told by her parents and her grandmother, whenever they would check up on her, they would find her painting or drawing by herself, in the quiet corners of her home. Her devotion to art was further nourished when her mother took her to inquire about her very first private art class. When she graduated from high school, she pursued her art at Montclair State University, earning a bachelor's degree in painting and drawing before attending the Academy of Art University. However, her journey was interrupted as she battled personal struggles with illness that made it impossible for her to pursue her art and even accomplish everyday tasks. Throughout those painful struggles, she thought a lot about the artist Frida Kahlo and the struggles she endured.

When Arlene began walking and using her hands again, it was a significant crossroad in her life. At the present time, in spite of some considerable impairments and pain she still experiences, she is much better. Painting for Arlene is personal, especially now, for the reason that it permits her to escape the painful obstacles in life and imparts her with purpose. The hours become minutes while she narrates her stories with her brushes filled with paint.

Artist Statement

In the words of Marshall McLuhan, “Technology is just not a happenstance and not just something that got there when nobody was noticing and so, we are responsible for our technologies and the effects of our technologies, as we are responsible for tidying up our grammar.”

I have created my series Absence of Privacy because I believe everyone has a right to privacy. Likewise, I believe that most unscripted moments in life, should remain unscripted and free from a world of webcams. To illustrate the ways in which webcams have invaded our lives, I have painted twelve paintings with oil on canvas. I paint the figure in everyday settings as they are being watched through a surveillance camera or webcam.

My interest in this topic began when I created a still-life oil painting of a webcam for my Contemporary Painting class in 2011. It felt eerie and overpowering. It was agitating to see a webcam up-close staring at me. For this reason, I began reflecting on the multitude of cameras that were gawking at me throughout the day. Prior to this, I had never given this much attention. As I read articles about privacy abuses, I felt compelled to communicate these issues through painting.

Below are Barney’s Artist Biography, his Artist Statement, along with 25 of his oil paintings.  We hope that you will take the time to read Barney’s information and to take a look at his artwork.

Artist Biography:

Barney Levitt has been creating ‘pictures’ ever since he was old enough to grip a crayon and scribble on his parents’ living room walls. He was given his first oil set when he was 10 years old, which set him on his destined path to becoming a professional artist. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from S.U.N.Y at Oswego, he never looked back.

He was greatly influenced by the works of the Dutch and Flemish masters and his highly detailed works in realism captures the viewers’ attention, for their unique and often humorous content. Humor and a strong narrative are key ingredients in his work, and he often uses a bright color palette in his paintings. His work ranges from classical still life set-ups to quirkier narrative pieces that invite the viewer to create a narrative of their own.

Titles are important to Barney as they give the viewer better insight into what he’s trying to convey. His work combines naturalistic detail with quirky offbeat compositions that often juxtapose ordinary objects in ways the viewer doesn’t expect.

Barney is a signature member of The National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society (NOAPS), A Copley Society of Art Master, a member of The International Guild of Realism (IGOR), and Oil Painters of America (OPA). He is represented by several New England galleries.

Artist Statement:

The goal of my work is to capture the viewers' attention through humor and narrative. My work is highly detailed realism but often with an interesting twist which I hope will elicit a smile, or invite wonder and offer a narrative to spark the viewers' imagination. My subject matter incorporates natural objects like bird and wildlife, to beach stones, feathers, and other found objects. I look for material that evokes a sense of nostalgia; classic board games and antiques. My paintings are created layer by layer, as the details build slowly with each successive layer. I have a keen eye for detail and no detail is left undone in my work. Painting is my way of expressing my unique view of the world and my compositions often border on the surreal. The scenes often can't exist in reality, but the photographic detail would tell you otherwise.
