Adam Strange is a Canadian pixel-based artist plumbing the depths of the human condition, exploring the dark recesses of human behaviour and the effects of societal entropy. He started his art career during the mid-eighties, exhibiting locally in Southwestern Ontario, such as in the 1987 London Ontario exhibition "Homage to Marcel Duchamp on the occasion of the centennial of his birth" at the McIntosh gallery.
Adam graduated from the Ontario College of Art (OCA) in 1992 with a focus on magic-realism and old master technique under the direction and guidance of OCA professor Carmen Cereceda, a Chilean muralist who was once an assistant of Diego Rivera. He was also mentored by his father, an artist and contemporary of Tony Tascona and Takao Tanabe from the Winnipeg School of Art. Adam pursued fine art until around 1996 when he was in demand for his graphic design services full time.
In 2018, Adam refocused his life back to fine art, and has since seen his tools change from traditional materials into the digital realm, but the vision has remained the same… challenging viewers to question the world around them and to live in a world of their own making.
Adam is a member of the National Association of Digital Artists (naDA) and the Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC). Adam was Publicity Director for the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA) 2022-2023.
These visual artefacts are made in the “Age of Anxiety” where truth and lies are indistinguishable, issues and attitudes are binary, and the perils of conflict and intimacy result in the separation of the self from the physical.
The images reflect our anxious world through a process of digital painting, photomontage or “image dubbing.” These visual narratives are sojourns where time and memory, feelings and perspectives, manifest as physical places or situations showing the “Essentia” - the world as it really is.
Aldous Huxley, the British writer, once wrote, “There are things known, and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception.” I create my art in that space between the known and unknown. The space is made of the thin unreliability of memory and shards of lived experience, which are reconstructed into stark forms and landscapes, resulting in nuanced, disturbing and sensual images.
The pieces are journeys from the purely aesthetic to a sacramental vision. There is a discordant beatific vision in the absence of colour, which engenders a lack of visual and emotional information. The removal of this content from the picture requires the viewer to confront a stark reality immediately. Light and shade, and what is revealed from the blackness become the primary language for interpreting the image.
These are images of realism. By turns, demanding, fearful, and disorienting. They are fit representations of the times we live in.

Below are Debra’s Artist Biography, her Artist Statement, along with 18 of her paintings. We hope that you will take the time to read Debra’s information and to take a look at her beautiful “Bather Series” of paintings.
From the intense, diverse energy of New York, Debra creates powerful narrative works drawn from her imagination. Her work is bold, whimsical, colorful and symbolic. Her color palette is inspired by the intense light of the southern hemisphere of her youth. Under vivid blue skies, nature’s colors pulsate with life. She is drawn to the unnatural juxtaposition of images and fantasy. Whimsy is often expressed through symbolic use of native birds. If studied closer these become the energy, the clue as to the tone of the narrative. Debra uses the exotic floral natives, like the Waratah, morphed with the human form to create haunting yet striking images.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, she grew up a bare foot youth exploring nature in all its' forms. A pencil or paintbrush her voice. Debra then went on to study life drawing and portraiture at The Paddington Art School in Sydney. Her fascination with the figure combined with her passion for dance led to dynamic figurative pieces where the subject almost leaps off the canvas. Executed in oil on canvas her stimulating symbolic paintings are rich with vibrant color. Early in her career she took to travel overseas, settling for a year in Mexico to devote to her art. Around that time her work became infused with an almost decorative carnival quality. This led to paintings now held in private collections internationally.
My bather series places an unposed figure in a surreal cocoon of nature. My creative language are the ocean inlets and vegetation of my Australian roots. I chose a vintage bather in my series to reflect a timelessness. There's a longing for a world that used to feel safe. I chose expressive color to enhance the mood of the narrative. The Native Portrait series is an expression of years of being masked. The Australian native birds chosen for each portrait, speaks to the personality of the sitter, their face hidden behind the floral mask.

Deimante Bruzguliene was born in Lithuania on May 20, 1980 and came to the United Kingdom in 2004. Her love of all animals started at a very young age. She was always keen to rescue animals. Deimante is an Artist who is completely self-taught. She is breath taking realistic wildlife paintings of animals. Deimante works in a variety of media including acrylic, oil, pastel, watercolour, graphite and mixed media.
“When it is my time to leave this world, I wish to do so knowing that I have left paintings that inspire others to appreciate the beauty of the natural world.”
I have been a lifelong artist. I've been drawing since I can remember. Art class has always been my favourite class. My style is realist, as I am obsessed with detail. I have always had a deep love of animals and nature. I find inspiration in all kinds of creatures, both domestic and wildlife, big, small, or in between.
My favourite subjects are wildlife. I love drawing animals as it is a way of accessing the secrets of the natural world. I can see their souls through their eyes, which I try to capture in my paintings. Animals are as individual as humans, but for me they manifest a purer and more genuine spirit to the outside world than do human beings. I can love animals by painting them, leaving a legacy of their existence and hopefully bringing to the viewer the same joy that I experience painting them.
I would like more people to be able to experience the connection that I have with animals. I wish to take this further to really convey that animals have their own personality and soul. Every portrait I do enriches my life, for the subject enters my heart. We are all connected. Connections are magical, providing an opportunity to nurture patience, compassion, love and caring.

Below is James’s Artist Biography and his Artist Statement, along with 25 of his artworks. We hope that you will take the time to read James’s information and to take a look at his artwork.
James Su (Lingfeng) is a contemporary artist known for his use of digital coding in his artwork. Born in Shanghai, he entered the Shanghai Art Institute to study art, laying a solid base for his art skills. He started his art career as a freelance illustrator. His illustrations have been published in many books and magazines.
In 1985, he came to the United States to study engineering and obtained his MS and Ph.D. He published many books and his work has been exhibited in galleries and museums many galleries and museums around the world. he was a professor at three universities.
Currently, Dr. Su resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. Su's interest in the intersection of art and technology led him to experiment with using AI to create art. His artwork often explores the relationship between humans and machines and seeks to highlight the unique creative possibilities that emerge when we collaborate with AI. This submittal to LST is one of Su's projects called the "Hospitals in the Pandemic" painting series, which was completed in collaboration with AI. The series explores both the potential of AI in creating artwork with humanistic themes and the limitations of AI in capturing the emotional depth of human experience. Overall, Su's work challenges traditional notions of art and creativity and raises important questions about the role of technology in shaping the future of the arts.
"Hospitals in the Pandemic" is a series of paintings created by James Su in collaboration with artificial intelligence (AI). While AI is often used for commercial art, it is rare to see it used for humanistic themes in artworks.
With the COVID-19 pandemic causing widespread devastation, Su sought to create a series of paintings that would capture the experiences of patients, doctors, nurses, and family members in hospitals during this time. The resulting AI paintings were completed under the guidance and training of the artist, with AI producing successful works that feature clever compositions, harmonious color themes, and accurate depictions of figurative characters.
In addition, AI developed a unique self-painting style that blends post-impressionism, expressionism, and Fauvism in a way that is both innovative and true to the artist's vision. Su examines whether AI has emotions through its works. While artists typically infuse their work with their own emotions and experiences, AI lacks these qualities. The paintings in the series reflect this, with characters depicted as relatively indifferent and lacking in emotional depth.
However, the question remains whether AI can be trained to develop emotions as it gains knowledge and experience. This exploration of AI's emotional capabilities raises fascinating questions about the intersection of art and technology.
The paintings in the series showcase the unique creative possibilities that emerge when humans collaborate with AI, while also highlighting the limitations and challenges that arise when we attempt to imbue machines with human-like qualities.

Below are Patrick’s Artist Biography, his Artist Statement, along with 25 of his hyper realistic paintings. We hope that you will take the time to read Patrick’s information and to take a look at his artwork.
Artist Biography
Self-taught painter, Patrick Egger was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland in 1957.
First a forest engineer and then a teacher, it was only at the dawn of his sixties, settled in La Creusaz above Les Marécottes that painting imposed itself on him.
After experimenting with charcoal and then pastel, he finally turned to acrylic paint, which lends itself well to his very intuitive practice of working.
He paints landscapes in a figurative way, up to hyperrealism. Through his works, we perceive a persistent quest for sensations linked to the beauty of the place. Through opposing atmospheres, he likes to bring together, for example, the peacefulness of the mountain and the harshness of the alpine setting.
Patrick’s art seems both faithful to the visible and in harmony with a feeling that he seeks to magnify. His style often focuses on indirect light which gives the pattern to a particular climate.
Artist Statement
I paint in a figurative way, often touching hyperrealism, which allows me to accurately, in a detailed way, to replicate a subject.
When I paint a landscape, from a photo, I am intent on creating a strict reproduction, but occasionally changing a detail. For example, I will make a change in the vegetation or the light on the subject with its linked shadows to the atmospheric conditions, with a view to a search, a balance, a breath or an emotion.
What is imagined must remain realistic as far as I am concerned.
However, some works are totally invented. They then represent compositions of different images, more or less precise memories or simply ephemeral impressions. The difficulty no longer lies in the exact reproduction of a photo but that of a virtual image, even a feeling, without knowing the exact result. The method is empirical - the successive layers follow one another and the result is thus refined little by little. The path to the final creation is not always the most direct.

Below are Nathan’s Artist Biography, his Artist Statement, along with 16 of his paintings. We hope that you will take the time to read Nathan’s information and to take a look at his beautiful artworks.
Born in the summer of 1980 in Iowa City, IA, Nathan has been interested in art his entire life. His earliest memories are of laying on his bedroom floor drawing pictures of people, nature, and copying pictures from magazines. He is blessed to maintain his childhood sense of awe and wonder when creating and experiencing art he loves.
Through studying 17th and 18th century oil painting techniques Nathan has developed the process of beginning all of his paintings with rough graphite drawings to establish scale and perspective. He then proceeds with multiple under-paintings of umber and grey tones, then finally complete the work with many thin glazes of color.
In 2011, Nathan graduated from the University of Iowa with a BFA in painting and drawing. Upon graduating he worked in Austin, TX and NYC managing print shops until he moved back to Iowa City to dedicate himself to painting full time. He finds inspiration in everyday people and situations, attempting to see the sublime in the mundane. Art is a way to find inspiration and to drive towards something higher than the self to access the pure bliss that lies behind prosaic surfaces. He hopes his art work offers the viewer a glimpse of that bliss.
I create my paintings as a meditation on being and non-being. I am interested in the thin grey area between diametrically opposed positions, thoughts or behaviors, the more these two objects differ, the more similar they become. Painting is a practice that opens up a space to interrogate this transcendent grey are. My primary materials are pigments, linseed oil, damar varnish, turpentine, sable brushes, a glass palette, cotton duck canvas, etc. Josef Albers' book on color theory, as well as, The Artist's Handbook of Materials and Techniques, a reference book by Ralph Mayer, became my bibles in college and I continue to use them as my fondest wells of knowledge.

Artist Biography
Heather Coen in an award winning artist based in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Her paintings have been recognized and published by every major art magazine in the United States including, Art of the West, Plein Air Magazine, American Art Collector, Colored Pencil Magazine, Southwest Art and others. She began her career by apprenticing to two major artists and then, over the coming years, took classes and workshops to hone her skills. Recently, although her career was halted by a tragedy, she has risen from the ashes and began painting with a vengeance.
She belongs to such prestigious national organizations like Oil Painters of America, Women Artists of the West, National Oil and Acrylic Painters as well as a number of local art venues. She currently has work in three different galleries in two different states including Jackson Hole and Cheyenne, Wyoming and Estes Park, Colorado.
Heather is a landscape, still life and wildlife artist. Her work comes from her many travels all over South America, Canada and the United States. They are created over many months by adding many layers of paint or pastel on a canvas or surface.
Heather believes she is, “Creating a legacy, one original at a time.”
Artist Statement
Having been born with a paint brush in my hand, my mother survived and passed on many of her artistic skills to me. Apprenticed to three master artists over a six-year period, I launched with advantages. I soon became the President of a local art organization and learned the inner workings of shows, exhibits and keeping a herd of cats going in somewhat the same direction. I was the prize coordinator for the Women Artists of the West 50th Jubilee Show which happened to coincide with the outbreak of COVID. The organization could not hold the National Show and everything had to be coordinated and shipped. It took weeks.
Overcoming adversity is a part of every artist's life. I've found that persistence, ethics and just plain being stubborn helps. I have drawers full with awards and ribbons. I became a Master Signature member of Paint America after winning a number of competitions through their venues. It took me eight years to accumulate enough points.
I also have my Signature designation with Plein Air Artists Colorado and Pastel Society of Colorado. Moving from the mountains of Colorado to the hot, dry desert in Arizona, I found that plein air work helped tremendously in changing my palette and way of thinking. It was not an easy transition.

Artist Biography
Catherine Kirkwood has been painting since she was a child. At age 12 she began oil painting lessons and art was her passion all through school. She attended the School of Art at Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y. She also spent a year at the California College of the Arts in Oakland, Ca. and received her B.A. in drawing from the University of New Mexico. She continued at the University of New Mexico and received her M.A. in painting in 1974. From there she moved to New York where she worked and painted for several years before moving to Santa Fe, N.M. where she currently resides. She has shown nationally and won numerous awards for her work.
Catherine has always been a realist and her work is involved in images from the natural world. For many years she painted the southwest landscape and then became intrigued with water. She has painted water gardens over many decades and after a two year move to Miami, Florida began using plants and flowers in her work. In the past year she has been photographing at a local flower farm which has resulted in large canvases of flowers enlarged beyond their true size.
Complexity is a feature of Catherine’s work. She involves herself with detail and the paintings are full. It is the artist’s hope that the viewer will be able to visit a painting many times and still find new elements to explore visually.
Artist Statement
I have been painting for as long as I can remember and don’t think I ever seriously considered any other path in life other than that of an artist. I lived in New York City for several years in my mid-twenties but am happier in the country. My work is rooted in nature and that is where I gain inspiration. I have always been drawn to realism although I am straying further away from strict adherence to the photograph as I progress along in my career. I spent years drawing but a brush is really my most natural tool. The color and richness of oil paint along with the extended period of workability make it my favorite medium.
I grew up on the East Coast and spent my summers swimming and in the winter, I walked the beach for solitude and contemplation. My series of water paintings started in Santa Fe in the desert southwest, away from water. I am drawn to the quiet and “otherworldliness” of water, the sense of things hidden in the depths. I am visually fascinated by the different layers one sees when looking at the water—the reflections of the sky, the movement on the surface and the abstraction of what is below the surface. Water lilies and koi add another dimension of color and form above and under the water.
I consider myself an interpreter of nature and as an artist, someone who greatly appreciates the beauty of nature through using it as my model.

From his early involvement with the Boy Scouts, through his law enforcement career, and then as a touring professional musician and now as a full time RVer, he has had the opportunity to travel, explore and capture much of this nation’s beauty though the art photography.
There is so much more to capturing an image than just the technical aspects of photography. I strongly believe that an image can speak to the heart and when I am capturing an image, I attempt to use the existing light and color to convey the emotion that I feel in that moment. I truly desire to harness strong emotion through my images. I am drawn to our Nations beauty and am always excited when I have the opportunity to capture and share a new image.

Artist Biography
Ilona is an image-maker and a digital artist. Taking images gives her as much fun as processing them. Digital tools and painting helped convert her photos and composites into digital art.
Learning new ways of making her art different gives her pleasure; she evolves and moves on, so she does not get boring to her viewers or bored with herself.
She is regularly published in International Art Magazines and participates in numerous Art Exhibitions. It is incredible what we can produce in the digital age, and it is fun.
Artist Statement
In these last two years, we had so many restrictions. We couldn’t travel overseas and sometimes not even to the next suburb. My art is my sanity. Some of you probably think the word sanity is not coming to mind when you look at some of my artwork. I kept swamped during this time. I also tried to get inventive and created my models in the digital world.
For this exhibition, I came up with the idea to paint portraits in the style of Art Deco. I painted the illustrations in Procreate on my iPad. It is fascinating that my art lets me bring my fantasy to print and that I can share my somewhat warped ideas with the viewers. I hope that my work evokes questions and triggers your fantasy.

Garry Arzumanyan is an award-winning self-taught artist whose paintings have been exhibited in Netherlands, the United States, Australia, Slovenia, France, Italy, Russia, Serbia, Belarus, and Armenia. He describes his art as being born by both women and the sea, stating that he has not yet encountered "a deeper, more enigmatic, nor more fatal phenomena".
Each painting is a separate story, through which he tells the audience about something worrying him and trying to explain his point of view. Every painting is a dialogue with the audience which may last from a few minutes to lifetime. Garry loves to discover people`s emotions, fears, dark and light sides in this dialogue. His expressive compositions are created with oils, pencils, and charcoal on canvas or paper.
Born in Armenia and from early childhood inspired by the works of Ivan Aivazovsky and Francis Bacon, he became a multiple winner of various competitions since childhood.
When I start my paintings, the first thing I do is outlining complexity and harmony of the sky and clouds, and when the sky is fully done, I get to the two layers of the sea and before finishing the sea, I start painting figures over the sea. Drawing figures over the water is the main and the most time-consuming process of my painting, and it may sometimes last months. I usually start with 2 or 3 figures, but with the time this number can get more, at times with unexpected images for myself. Each painting is a separate story, through which I tell the audience about something worrying me and trying to explain my point of view describing the duality of human feelings through the prism of existential perception. Every painting is a dialogue with the audience which may last from a few minutes to lifetime. I love to discover people`s emotions, fears, dark and light sides in the dialogue. Many people say that I paint a sea, but I do not paint a sea. I paint people, through water and sea images. I paint people with their weak and strong, dark and light sides, people with their fears, people with their dreams.
