Below are Jeeva’s Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 of his abstract oil paintings that were submitted to this competition.
Jeeva Thomas is a Canadian abstract painter based out of Vancouver, BC. He is self-taught, and initially learned to paint as an escape from illness; in the process, he discovered an overwhelming passion and appreciation for artistic expression.
A native of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, and a longtime resident of Paris, France, his paintings reflect his life journey from island, to urban city, to mountainous terrain. Through vivid colors and knife strokes, Jeeva hopes to celebrate the world and his experiences that both shape, and inspire him as an artist.
Jeeva proudly donates half of all profits to the BC Cancer Foundation. To learn more about the Foundation, or donate yourself, please visit: www.bccancerfoundation.com
As an abstract painter, my work reflects my life’s journey through diverse landscapes, from Sri Lanka’s coasts to Paris’s urbanity and Vancouver’s mountains. Born from my battle with cancer, my art celebrates resilience and transformation, using vivid colors and bold strokes to convey energy, healing, and hope. Each piece tells a personal story, inviting viewers to connect with its emotional and spiritual essence.
